Useful Tips |
| Traffic - by Hassan from Estcourt S Africa |
| Driving in Marrakesh was an education. The streets are always full and everybody drives everywhere, in the middle, on the right, on the left and they only know Go, Go, Go... all at the same speed. Take a bus to Ouarzazate if you want to cross the Atlas mountains and then rent a 4x4 the roads are not too great but the scenery is fantastic. |
Marrakech Overview |
| With the narrow streets of the old city that cannot be used by modern cars and its medieval buildings Marrakesh has retained all the romance and flavour of a time in Morocco that is lost in its newer, brasher cities. As such, Marrakesh is a living monument of the country and tourists who flock to the city in search of the ‘real’ Morocco are thrilled by the souks, mosques and its unique shimmering light. |

Marrakech Essentials |
Djemaa El Fna - The city’s famous town square is always crowded with storytellers and musicians and crude makeshift kitchens from which enticing aromas waft, is a fascinating, exciting spectacle that should not to be missed.
El Badi Palace - Although now in ruins the El Badi Palace reveals just how extravagantly wealthy the city rulers were in the 16th century.
The Menara Gardens - Olive groves and orchards surround an ornamental lake in this beautiful and romantic place where lovers take horse-drawn buggy rides.
The Souks - Take a stroll through the Marrakesh souks, or market places, for a mind-blowing experience where all your senses are assailed by the scents and sights of all that is on sale.
Saadian Tombs - Quite possibly the greatest tourist attraction are the Saadian Tombs where stunning carving and delicate ornamentation of the walls can be seen inside a 16th century mausoleum. |
