Morocco Overview |
Throughout Morocco, despite the presence of modern and cosmopolitan cities like Rabat and Casablanca, a more distant past constantly makes its presence felt.
The country's physical make-up is also extraordinary, from a Mediterranean coast, through four maintain ranges, to the empty sand and scrub of the Sahara. All of which makes travel here an intense and rewarding experience. You can take refuge in low-key resorts like Essaouira or Asilah, or in the more cosmopolitan holiday destination of Agadir. |

Morocco Essentials |
Hassan II Mosque - Found in Casablanca it is one of the most splendid mosques and is a must see. It has a prayer hall that can accommodate 25,000 people. You can only enter the building on a guided tour at certain times of the day.
High Atlas Mountains - Snow capped in winter and arid red in summer, it offers hiking opportunities for the beginner as well as the experienced. Toubkal is a popular hike, but there are also remote plateaux where you can view prehistoric rock carvings and isolated valleys where there are Berber villages.
Ait Ben Haddou - Situated in the desert terrain, it is like stepping back into Biblical times. Roam the streets where scenes from the motion pictures Gladiator, Jesus of Nazerath and Lawrence of Arabia where shot on location.
A walk in the Souq - They can be found in all the major towns and cities across Morocco, the 2 most noteable are in Fes and Marrakech. They are a hive of activity from start to finish, although not many shops are open on friday as this is the Holy dat.
Draa Valley - It leads from Ouarzazate in a south-east direction to Zagora. From Ouarzazate the road winds through the hills cut by an impressive gorge. Between Agdz and Zagora it is very picturesque with palmeraies, kasbahs and Berber vilalges. |
